NAPLES, Fla. -- The New York Yankees are getting close to re-signing third baseman Alex Rodriguez to a multi-year contract that would pay him as much as $290 million, multiple baseball sources told MLB.com as the owners gathered here Wednesday for the final quarterly meetings of the year.
Quote:
"After spending time with [wife] Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization," Rodriguez said.
You mean after spending time reading and listening to what they said about you and your agent you choose to contact the Yankees yourself and make amends. lol

Rodriguez has now signed a 10 year/$275 million contract. Whoo-hoo!

"Correct me if I'm wrong, because I know I can't be right."
"Did they tell me how to pitch to (Ted) Williams? Sure they did. It was great advice, very encouraging. They said he had no weakness, won't swing at a bad ball, has the best eyes in the business, and can kill you with one swing. He won't hit anything bad, but don't give him anything good." - Bobby Shantz
The Yankees made the smart move by signing him because even though he hasn't won a championship, he hands down the best player in the league and really helps the Yankees line-up (depth wise).
If the Yankees can make a few more moves that will help them tremdously, then all I can say the Yankees once again will look like one of the best teams in the league on the Paper.
