Yeah yankees get alot of hype. Some deserve it some dont. Williams needs to retire in my opinion. But just think about how he feels he probly dreamed all his life to play pro ball and now its all coming to an end thats got to be hard knowing its all over. knowing You best years are behind you.

yeah, especially knowing what he had to go through. Hopefully he doesnt go into a depression or anything like they've been talking about a lot with retired NFL players.

Bernie's best year coincided with each of the Yankees Championship years.

AVG OBP SLG OPS HR RBI HITS SO
1996 .305 .391 .535 .926 29 102 168 72
1998 .339 .422 .575 .997 26 97 169 81
1999 .342 .435 .536 .971 25 115 202 95
2000 .307 .391 .566 .957 30 121 165 84

Wow, as a true Yankee fan I appreciate what Bernie did. Notice his pretty low strikeouts, he averaged well over 70 BB aswell. IMHO he was at one point second to only Griffey Jr. in CF, albeit just a year or two.

You don't think hes a HOF'r do you? That would be insane, he was very good for a few years, and good enough the rest of his career.

I think Bernie and Mo were the biggest contributors to all the championships teams. It's a tough call, he wasn't the best at his position (see Griffey) but those rings do help. Bernie was one of my All-Time favorite Yanks.

His huge drop off in 2003 caused his career AVG to drop below .300! This might keep him out of the HoF. Very unfortunate...

I know what you're saying and you probably have a little bias towards him too, even if you wont admit it, but the HoF is about your body of work and his isnt amazingly impressive, definately not HoF worthy. 287HR's 2,336Hits, 1257RBI's, and a .297AVG isnt HoF material. I do think he has a chance, although i hope he doesnt, because of the rings and the Yankee hype factor.

You got me mistaken, I like Bernie but I don't think he is HoF worthy. His rings alone shouldn't get him in the Hall. My bias would like to see him in there but I know better. If that were the case the ball boy of the Yanks should get in aswell.

I much rather see Mattingly in the Hall. His body of work was impressive. He has comparable stats to Kirby Puckett and he did this in less years.

His downfall was his back injury sustained in 1988 or 89 not sure when it happened. Just one playoff appearance but he led the team on his back. He was by far the best player in a short period of time (1984-1987).... He was amazing and had the sweetest left handed swing I've ever seen. Perfect approach for the Stadium.

I even had that poster of him in a zoot suit and fedora holding a bat fashioned like a tommy gun. It read "Hitman" on the top. Priceless.

Ok then i thought i understood what you were saying. I cant comment on Mattingly, he was before i was born. I dont remember much of Bernie either since he was a rookie the year i was born.

Oh damn, you're a baby

Look up Mattingly and Kirby stats. They are very comparable.
