Torre and Cashman and Steinbrenner and the almighty Joek, according to you, know that Utley is quite a bit better than Cano and would start over Cano. It isn't Utley's fault that they didn't make the playoffs, if you want to go with that mentality then blame it on Howard, he had better stats and is the better hitter than Utley. There is a reason that Utley got a huge extentsion this offseason and Cano didn't.

You ain't the best if you can't help your team to the playoffs. But you answered my question when you state "almost all of baseball sees Utley as the best 2 bagger in the game right now..." By the way, who is 'almost all of baseball'. Not to shake you up however, but Cano doesn't replace any of the three Yankee outfielders. Since Utley can't break into the Yankee lineup, it would be very difficult for him to bat in the 3-4-5 slots.

The reigning AL AND NL MVP's are overrated and a guy(Gary Matthews Jr.) whose had ONE good year in his career and is not under heat for steroids is underrated.
Ryan Howard hit over 50 HR's and Morneau carried his team to the playoffs. Gary Matthers did neither, he is now overpaid and overrated, Matthews had ONE good year and now hes making 10mil a year, a contract the Angels will regret in a year or two.
