There is a reason that Utley got a huge extentsion this offseason and Cano didn't.

That's the other thing I don't get, it's Utleys fault the TEAM doesn't make the playoffs, you have even stated yourself (johnsondc) that it's the teams that gets you there...

we have this discussion almost weekly it seems like. Wether or not one player is blamed for the whole failure of a team.

You ain't the best if you can't help your team to the playoffs. But you answered my question when you state "almost all of baseball sees Utley as the best 2 bagger in the game right now..." By the way, who is 'almost all of baseball'. Not to shake you up however, but Cano doesn't replace any of the three Yankee outfielders. Since Utley can't break into the Yankee lineup, it would be very difficult for him to bat in the 3-4-5 slots.

Overrated: Ryan Howard, Justin Morneau, Jason Varitek, Kerry Wood, Jim Thome, white sox pitchers.

Underrated: Gary Matthews Jr., Robinson Cano, Ted Lilly, Scott Kazmir, Jason Schmidt.

Jim Thome is not overrated .. did you see what he did last year?

The WhiteSox pitchers ... they are over rated.

Vasquez actaully pitched very well down the stretch, but the Sox hitting went cold.

Contreras was terrible down the stretch .. Buerle had a bad season ..

Garland was very good ... he started the year off hurt and pitched like it, once he was healthy, he was winning almost every game.

Ryan Howard had a career year last year and is very young .. this year will tell if he is the real deal.

Gary Matthews Jr underrated? as what .. an ambassador of steroids?

Ted lilly has been average his whole career ... this year will either make or break what kind of pitcher he will be.

Kasmir will be awesome ....

The reigning AL AND NL MVP's are overrated and a guy(Gary Matthews Jr.) whose had ONE good year in his career and is not under heat for steroids is underrated.

Ryan Howard hit over 50 HR's and Morneau carried his team to the playoffs. Gary Matthers did neither, he is now overpaid and overrated, Matthews had ONE good year and now hes making 10mil a year, a contract the Angels will regret in a year or two.
