Im Manny's first season, 1994, he hit only hit .269. Not saying hes gonna be Manny, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

exactly, Mannys always been healthy, i don't think you can judge him on such little body of work given his missed time. Its similar to Rex Grossman this year, it was basically his rookie year and he was catching crap as if he were a perennial pro bowler making these mistakes. You just gotta give players time in baseball, rarely will someone be an overnight sensation.

Pudge, yes. Piazza... offensively, yes, defensive not even close. Varitek

Jorgie has been a great catcher. He bounces back fairly well from any injury. I honestly think that his longest stint on the DL was when he broke his nose running into 2nd. I might be biased about this but he has sustained a longer more productive career than Varitek. Varitek got pretty damn good back in 2000? Before that he wasn't better than Posada. If the last 2 years are any indictation, it looks like he is on the decline offensively and defensively. This happens to catcher at a fairly earlier stage than anyother position player.
Pudge is better than any other catcher and Piazza was better than them all offensively. Probably the best ever.

Ramon Hernandez should get more pub than he gets, he's a great catcher, but since he plays in the east, no one talks about him.

hmmmm. i seem to recall Varitek winning a Gold Glove or two and i think some silver slugger in there too. Tek would've won more GG's but Pudge and Bengie Molina have been in the AL almost the whole time Tek has too.
there are few who are worse than Piazza defensively as a catcher. if any lol.

Its not so much the East as it is the pitiful state that the team is in. But, yes, i agree he should get more publicity.
Damian Miller and Kenji Johjima(SP?) also deserve more publicity.

I have to say for overatted is a guy like Bobby Crosby this guys has done next to nothing and it seems as though every year he is talked about as being a star. peter Gammons picked him as MVP last season!!

Peter Gammons has forgotten more baseball than we will ever know. If he thinks hes gonna be a star then he probably will.
