I guess it varies, I think he is great just not as great as people say. He has a GREAT arm but his fielding altogether is average IMO, his bat is GREAT and so is the contact, I just think he could be much better if he didn't swing as free as he does.
I also think a guy like Manny is a bit overatted too, a GREAT hitter but it ends there.
Travis Hafner is underrated too. The guy can rake and he never gets any credit, he nearly broke the single season record for grand slams last year (would've if not for getting hurt) and we barely heard anything about him!
I listed him in my underatted guys, same with Berkman IMO, 2 very underatted guys and 2 of the better hitters there are.

I have to agree with the Manny thing, he never hustles and is one of the worst baserunners ive ever seen but can hit like nobodys business.
The thing about Vlad's free swinging is that, more often than not, he makes contacts and it intimidates the pitcher.

I'd agree with Berkman too. I think they are both factors of the small market they play in though. I would say Eric Chavez is too. The guy play sparkling defense, probably one of the 3 defensive third basemen of the past 50 years and hits for decent power, his only problem is that he historically doesn't hit for a good average.

He does make contact and he does hit some pitches that look unhittable. More times then not though I look at that as a minus, if he would make the pitcher come to him and not be as free swinging I think he would/could put up 50+ HR's a season. I think he is good but could be much better.
still a great player no matter how you look at it though.

That plays a part in it, especially with Hafner and soon to be Sizemore. Berkman just does a lot, plays RF good and first base, hits for average, power and from both sides of the plate, very well rounded IMO.
I really like Chavez and the average is a bit questionable but that glove is AMAZING.
Hes my favorite players not from the Sox or Nats. I think the only guys who even come close or can measure up with him as far as the glove goes are Rolen, Schmidt, and Zimmerman.
