The reason baseball games are played is for the players on each team to try to help their team reach the playoffs and beyond, not for any individual or two to amass great individual stats and help lead their team home immediately after the 162 game season. I prefer to rate players each year on their ability to help their team succeed and then the same way over their career. Since the goal of any player should be to help his team reach the playoffs and beyond, I as many others, (not all, not even the most) understand that the best of the best players win. We leave the individual stats to the fantasy world game fans. I know you can't accept this premise, therefore we shall just have to believe in different values. Just remember my best of the best guys always are the winners.

i know we've had this discussion before but i don't care. That means that Alex Cora is better than Chase and that Ronnie Belliard is better than Cano and Chase. Which the entire baseball world knows is miles from the truth.

One of the dumbest statemenst I have ever read. Please tell me how he hasn't "helped them win"...just answer how he has not helped lead them.

You use the playoff thing, but can you honestly say that without Cano the Yankees would not have made the playoffs? Now, look at the Phillies, without Chase Utley would they have had any shot of making the playoffs? Probably not. Cano, probably so, on the yankees, if he was on the Phillies he wouldnt have helped them get to the playoffs either. You put that exact lineup around Utley and they Yankees will go to the playoffs too...I dont think it's so much Cano as it is the whole team.

Well obviously because he hasnt been to the playoffs... (He and the other Yankee homer seem to be the only one thinking that way)

I can understand making the statment if you have something to back it up with other then the same old nonsense over and over to get a reaction. There's just no way to put a statment like that other then just silly. TEAM sport, there's a reason why good TEAMS make the playoffs...

Well, it's good to see atleast three people on in this thread are thinking straight, and just a hint. One of them is not Johnsondc.

Any other thought for an overatted or underatted person? I posted this a while back, any opinions?

Excellent point and ive tried to say that before.

Also, why do teams go down the crapper when their star player gets hurt for an extended period of time in any sport? Nash went down for the Suns they struggled, Lee went down for the Cubs last year and they became downright terrible, Manny and Ortiz go down for the Sox and they start to drop off, when Vick was hurt for the Falcons a few years ago they were awful. The Yankees lost 2 good players last year and were absolutely fine because the lineup is so stacked without them. You could replace Cano with Marco Scutaro and the Yankees would be fine. Replace Utley with Scutaro and they are a miserable team. When Cano went down they were fine too.

That argument IMO is not even debatable unless there is something to back it up, and what can there be? EVERY player helps his team, except Bob Uecker LOL

Lets just try to move it on and see if there's any other thoughts for over/under rated players.
