Default Albert vs. The Babe - Scientifically speaking

It's a matchup Cardinals fans could only dream about: Albert Pujols versus Babe Ruth.

This spring, scientists at Washington University answered a call from GQ magazine to pit the St. Louis slugger against the Sultan of Swat.

Could science measure El Hombre's greatness? Does it match the Bambino's?

Researchers put Pujols through a range of tests, from finger tapping to visual responses to bat speed. He smoked them. And while the comparison has limitations, his results were strikingly similar to the Babe's.

That is very interesting to know, but you cant compare Albert and Ruth. Especially since Albert is only in his 6th year. They both played in different eras as well.

Theres a couple reasons I think Ruth is overrated. He was a great player dont get me wrong, but in his day they didnt use the reliever as they do now. Starters went the whole game almost every single game throwing close to 150 pitches, while if a pitcher gets around 100 today they pull him out almost automatically. Also in yankee stadium they shortened the right field fence for Babe to hit more homers. Also the gloves they used back then were not sowed together so they couldnt catch the ball or get balls up the middle as well. Also in the Ruth days grand rule doubles counted as home runs, anything that went over the fence. Bet ya didnt know that. The pitchers back in the day pitched no matter what, injury and all they had to get paid. Now mlb players get paid no matter what their status is and if they even get the slightest blister they come out and miss a start or two. I mean bob gibson tried to pitch with a broken leg one game. So Pujols has to face way harder, more advanced pitchers, its harder for him to get a hit, and he doesnt get help in the stat columns...for the grand rule double rule or the short porch.

Good arguements but all you need to look at is what Ruth did as opposed the rest of his peers at his time. There was no one even close to him. In todays MLB we have plenty of players in the top tier, ARod, Manny, Ortiz, Lee, Vlad that all can draw compares to Pujols in one way or another.

We can argue and say that Pujols is not a better hitter than Manny and have a valid arguement. I have never heard of an arguement that Manny is better than the Babe.

Babe Ruth will always be the King. Not only was he a great slugger, but a pretty darn good pitcher too.

The part I do love about ruth is that he got it doen with beer and hot dogs. Every power hitter today we have to wonder if hes on something, we know for a fact babe wasnt on it, because he was too lazy and not healthy enough.
