Tornadoes Release 2008 Ticket Packages

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Tornadoes are pleased to announce that the popular Tornadoes Mini-Paks and Flex-Paks are now available for the 2008 season. 2008 Group & Picnic Outings, Season Tickets and Birthdays Parties are also on sale as well.

Tornadoes Mini-Paks allow fans to enjoy a number of games from the same great seat, but without the commitment of season tickets. The Tornadoes will feature five different five-game Mini-Paks in 2008. Each Mini-Pak comes with a Box Seat and may contain games with promotional tie-ins to the pak's name, such as "The Peterman Pak" and "The Twister Pak." Two of the Mini-Paks will feature All-You-Can-Eat concessions privileges at all five games. These Mini-Paks come with a wrist band that allows the wearer to enter a designated area where they can order as much ballpark food, including hot dogs, hamburgers and fountain drinks, as they like.

"We are pleased to add another dimension to our Mini-Paks in 2008," said Tornadoes President and General Manager R.C. Reuteman. "Mini-Paks have always been a popular gift for our fans during the holiday season, and we think that the value of the All-You-Can-Eat Mini-Paks will make this year's holidays that much brighter for a lot of Tornadoes fans."

For the third straight season, the Worcester Tornadoes are offering cardboard immortality for one lucky Tornadoes fan. Every fan that purchases a Tornadoes Mini-Pak up until Opening Day, will be entered in a drawing to be featured on their very own Tornadoes baseball card in 2008. Regular five-game Mini-Paks cost $50 each and All-You-Can-Eat Mini-Paks cost $100 each.

Tornadoes Flex-Paks give fans the flexibility to choose which exciting Tornadoes games they would like to attend. Each Flex-Pak voucher can be exchanged for a Grandstand ticket to any 2008 Tornadoes regular season game. Tickets are subject to availability and must be redeemed in person at the Tornadoes Box Office. Tornadoes Flex-Paks include ten vouchers for $60.

I.M. Fun to return as Barnstormers emcee in 2008

LANCASTER, Pa.-All of his zany antics, wacky promotions and, yes, all of his colorful and silly hats will be back at Clipper Magazine Stadium in 2008. The Lancaster Barnstormers today announced that I.M. Fun will return as the emcee of the team's on-field entertainment.

"We've already started planning new promotions and games for '08, and I can't wait for FanFest and Opening Day to see my old friends back at the ballpark," I.M. Fun said. "Even though I'm coming back, our goal is to make sure 2008 is as new and exciting at the ballpark as the inaugural season."

I.M. Fun, known as Jeff Bertoni in "real life" is a 10-year veteran of minor league baseball entertainment, having worked as a mascot and on-field host in Frederick, Md., before joining the Barnstormers in 2005. He sat on the sidelines during the 2007 Barnstormers season, while he founded the Market Street Sports Group, a high school sports marketing firm of which he is now the president of sales.

Opening Day for the Barnstormers will be April 25, 2008 when the team takes on the Bridgeport Bluefish at Clipper Magazine Stadium. In 2007, Barnstormers fans set an Atlantic League single-game attendance record on Opening Day when 8,092 fans attended the Barnstormers championship ring ceremony.

Season tickets are the only way to guarantee seats for Opening Day 2008. To reserve seats, fans can call the Barnstormers at (717) 509-HITS (4487) to speak with a customer service specialist or visit Lancaster Barnstormers - Lancaster, PA Baseball for more information.

Bears Nava Lands Coaching Job with Giants

NEWARK, NJ, December 10-The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced today that Lipso Nava, the team's hitting coach during the 2007 season, has accepted a minor league coaching position within the San Francisco Giants organization for the upcoming 2008 season. Nava will serve as the hitting coach and first base coach for single-A Augusta in the South Atlantic League.

"I appreciate the confidence that the Newark Bears showed in me this past season and for giving me the chance to grow, both as a coach and as a person," said Nava. "I look forward to this opportunity to further my career and, with the help of God, reach the Major Leagues one day."

The 39 year-old Nava guided Bears hitters to a league-record .302 team batting average in helping Newark win the 2007 Atlantic League Championship. Last season marked Nava's first as a coach at any level of professional baseball. He retired as a player following the 2006 campaign.

"I have personally known Lipso for seven years, and I am extremely proud of him and happy for him and his family," said Bears general manager John Brandt. "With his tremendous work ethic and the success he achieved last season, he is very deserving of this opportunity."

In a 17-year playing career, Nava had a .274 lifetime batting average in over 1,300 games played. He batted better than .300 on three different occasions, including a career-best .332 for the Somerset Patriots in 1998. The season before, Nava reached the Triple-A level for the only time in his career, batting .266 with nine home runs for the Iowa Cubs.

The Venezuelan-born Nava played for three different Atlantic League teams over the final nine seasons of his career, the Bears, the Patriots, and the Camden Riversharks. He closed out his career playing third base for the Bears in 2006, batting .239 in an injury-shortened 52 games.

This is the second consecutive off-season that the Newark Bears have had their hitting coach hired by the San Francisco Giants. In the 2006 off-season, veteran hitting coach Victor Torres was hired to work in the Giants minor league system. Torres is expected to coach at Double-A Connecticut in 2008.
