Donlin Pitching Strong Down Under
SIOUX FALLS, SD (December 6, 2007) - Sioux Falls Canaries reliever Sean Donlin is spending his off-season pitching for the Wembley Magpies of the Western Australian Baseball League. Donlin has made two appearances, and won both starts for the Magpies. The southpaw has an earned run average of 2.63, and 24 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
"It is great to see Donlin having success in winter ball," said Canaries manager Steve Shirley. "During my career, I traveled the world to keep pitching in the winter, because the best way to improve yourself is to get on the mound and pitch."
Donlin has been a key part of the Canaries pitching staff for the past three seasons. In 2007, Sean went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA in 24 appearances.
Canaries third baseman Matt Imwalle and former Canaries outfielder Edgard Clemente are playing this winter in the Columbian Winter League. Imwalle is hitting .245 with three home runs and 19 RBI and 17 runs scored. Clemente was recently awarded Player of the Week honors. He is hitting .263 with three home runs, 19 RBI, 26 hits and 16 runs scored.
The Sioux Falls Canaries will open the 2008 American Association season on May 8 with a visit to the defending champion Fort Worth Cats. The Canaries home opener is on Tuesday, May 13 against the Pensacola Pelicans. To purchase a season ticket package, Canaries mini-plan, or perch pack, call the Canaries office at 333-0179.

LaGrave Field in Baseball America's 2008 Calendar
LaGrave Field, home of the Fort Worth Cats, is featured in Baseball America's 2008 Great Parks Calendar. It's the second time that LaGrave Field has been honored in the calendar, the first coming in 2003.
LaGrave Field is featured in the month of August with a photo of the historic Knothole Gang in right field with the Fort Worth skyline in the distance. The photo also showcases the four retired jerseys on the façade of the Knothole Gang: Bobby Bragan's No. 10 (2003), Duke Snider's No. 4 (2004), Maury Wills' No. 6 (2005) and Sparky Anderson's No. 1 (2006).
LaGrave Field has been home to the Fort Worth Cats during two different baseball eras, 1926-1964 and 2002-present. Home plate is exactly where it was in 1926 when the old facility opened. The Cats' history can be seen throughout the ballpark, including photos in the two dugout suites honoring players and coaches from the 1920s through the '40s and '50s, when the Cats were a farm club of the Brooklyn Dodgers after World War II.
In September, the Cats became the first team in modern independent baseball history to win three consecutive titles, capturing the Central League title in 2005, followed by back-to-back championship trophies in the American Association, one of the premier minor leagues in all of baseball.
The 2008 season marks the 120th anniversary of the beginning of professional baseball in Fort Worth.

Minor league baseball is all about having fun, which sometimes includes wild and wacky promotions. This year the Pensacola Pelicans had one of the best in the country, awarded Best Promotional Night by GameOps.com for its 150th Anniversary Tribute to Toilet Paper promotion.
"We are thrilled to receive this recognition," said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "It feels good to know our promotion was selected among all professional sports teams including the MLB, NBA, and Minor League Baseball."
Every fan that walked through the gate received a free roll of toilet paper. Throughout the game, all the between-inning promotions were themed around the white fluffy paper roll. In addition to the on-field activities, fans could read all they wanted to know about toilet paper with a five-page feature in the Pelicans souvenir program.
Three sponsors, Baldwin Plumbing Works, Independent News, and TK101, teamed-up with the Pelicans to celebrate the 150th anniversary of toilet paper.
"We could not have done this without four things," commented Nunnari. "The first is obviously toilet paper, and the other three were our great sponsors."
Other winners are:
New Orleans Hornets (NBA) - Best Team Operations
Washington Nationals (MLB) - Best Contest or On-Field Promotion
Portland Beavers (AAA) - Best Promotional Night (Split with Pensacola Pelicans)
Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) - Best Mascot
Awards are selected from nominations across all sports and all levels. Gameops.com canvasses a panel of selected industry leaders for the Best of Awards, using their collective input for the final award selections. The panel consists of active leaders in the game operations community and people who have the opportunity to see a range of teams and leagues.
Gameops.com was founded in 1998 by Mark Out Productions Inc. and serves the community of Game Operations and entertainment professionals worldwide.
