Travs Put Mini-Season Plans On Sale For 2008 Season

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas - The Arkansas Travelers announce that Mini-Season Ticket Plans for the 2008 baseball season are now on sale online at travs.com: Mini Season Plans. The Travs have expanded the options for the program after mini-season plans enjoyed immense popularity during the first season at Dickey-Stephens Park. There is a 20-game package and three separate 10-game mini-season plans that give fans the chance to reserve the same seats for some of the Travs biggest nights. Those interested in purchasing a 2008 Travs Mini-Season Plan are encouraged to go to the Travs' Online Box Office or to call (501) 664-1555.

"We found that fans liked to know that they could enjoy the same seat for each game included in the mini-plan," said Travs Assistant General Manager David Kay. "Mini-season plans give fans the chance to have a season-ticket plan without the full-season commitment."

Mini-Season plans are available in prices ranging from $65 for the 10-game "Sunday Only Plan" to $135 for the 20-game plan. There are two ten-game packages that sell for $70. They include a 10-game package with tickets for Travs games involving the Springfield Cardinals and Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The other 10-Game Plan includes tickets to the 2008 home opener and one fireworks night.

California League Manager of the Year Chad Epperson Returning To Lancaster In 2008

The Lancaster JetHawks, Class A affiliate of the World Champion Boston Red Sox, announced today that 2007 California League Manager of the Year Chad Epperson will return for his second season with the JetHawks in 2008. Epperson will be joined by Pitching Coach Mike Griffin and Hitting Coach Carlos Febles, both beginning their first stints in Lancaster. In addition, reigning California League Trainer of the Year Jon Jochim will also be returning to Lancaster next season.

Epperson, who enters his fifth season as a manager in the Boston organization, led the JetHawks to the California League's best regular season record in 2007, finishing the campaign at 83 - 57 and capturing both the first and second half South Division titles. In his managerial career, Epperson has posted an overall record of 288 - 267 (.518) and led his clubs to two post-seasons.

During his time with the Boston organization, the Florida native has managed several current major league stars who contributed to the Red Sox World Series sweep of Colorado in October. Among those on the Red Sox roster, Epperson has played a part in the development of 2007 American League Rookie of the Year Dustin Pedroia, outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and rookie sensation Clay Bucholz, who tossed a no-hitter in his second Major League start in September.

Griffin, who served as Pitching Coach for the last six seasons at AAA Pawtucket and enters his tenth season in the Boston organization, comes to Lancaster for his first stint in the California League. The California native graduated from Woodland High School and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1976. He pitched 14 years of professional baseball, including parts of six seasons at the Major League level with the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds. In 67 appearances, he was 7-15 with a 4.60 ERA. Griffin worked in the Reds organization from 1990 - 1998, including three years as the organization's pitching coordinator. As pitching coach in the Reds organization, four of his teams captured league championships.

Febles joins the JetHawks after working in Lowell for the 2007 season. The El Siebo, Dominican Republic native spent six years at the big league level with the Kansas City Royals after signing with the club in 1993. In over 500 games with Kansas City, Febles hit .250 with 24 homeruns from 1998 - 2003. Last season, Febles served as a coach with the Lowell Spinners, the short-season A club of the Red Sox.

In addition to the coaching staff, JetHawks trainer Jon Jochim returns for his second year in Lancaster. The 2007 California League Trainer of the Year enters his sixth season in the Boston organization, having spent time previously with Lowell and the Gulf Coast League Red Sox.

The JetHawks open the 2008 regular season on April 3 at High Desert before returning to Clear Channel Stadium for the home opener on April 10 against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Merchandise featuring the JetHawks new team identity is available now at the JetHawks Gift Store located at Clear Channel Stadium and also on-line at Lancaster JetHawks. Tremendous ticket packages starting at only $56 are available for purchase now by calling 661.726.5400.

Kernels extend PDC with Angels through 2010

The Cedar Rapids Kernels announce have extended their Player Development Agreement with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim through the 2010 season. The extension was announced today by Tom Barbee, President of the Cedar Rapids Ball Club, Inc., and Tony Reagins, General Manager of the Angels at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.

Tom Barbee, the President of the Kernels, welcomed the news. "Being part of one of the premier teams in the Major Leagues insures our fans in the Cedar Rapids area of seeing some of the best young players in the country." Barbee went on to say that the working relationship between the two clubs, the Kernels and Angels, has been tremendous.

"The Angels are pleased to extend our agreement with the Cedar Rapids Kernels through the 2010 season," said Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the Angels. "We value our relationship with the Kernels' ownership and front office, and we appreciate that our players are playing in a first-class facility where they receive tremendous fan support."

Several Kernel players have gone on to star for the Angels in the majors, most recently infielders Casey Kotchman, Howie Kendrick and Dallas McPherson; and catcher Jeff Mathis. Some of those former Kernels reaching superstar status in the Majors include 2007 All-Star pitchers John Lackey of the Angels and Bobby Jenks of the White Sox.

The agreement between the Kernels and Angles has been in place since 1993 and is currently the longest affiliation in the Midwest League. The Kernels won the MWL championship in 1994 and qualified for the MWL playoffs in 2007.

Former 'caps Dealt In Blockbuster; Eight Whitecaps Traded This Offseason

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Tigers continued to deal many of their top prospects for Major League All-Stars this week when Cameron Maybin and four other former Whitecaps were traded in the Tigers blockbuster deal with the Florida Marlins for third baseman Miguel Cabrera and left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis.

Maybin, who led the Whitecaps to a MWL Championship in 2006, was dealt to Florida along with catcher Mike Rabelo (2002-03) and pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz (2004), Burke Badenhop (2006), Dallas Trahern (2005) and Andrew Miller. The Tigers latest deal runs the total count of former 'Caps traded this offseason to eight players. Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez (2007) and pitcher Jair Jurrjens (2005) were traded to Atlanta on October 29 for all-star shortstop Edgar Renteria and infielder Omar Infante (2000) was dealt to Chicago for outfielder Jacque Jones on November 11.

The trades this offseason have showcased the success and talent of the Tigers minor leagues in conjunction with the Whitecaps championship seasons the past three out of four years as an integral step in the Tigers farm system.

"What this trade shows is the success of our minor league system to be able to enhance the Major League club right now," said Tigers Director of Minor League Operations Dan Lunetta. "This is the hard work of our scouting to acquire that young talent through the draft and Latin America and the work of our coaches in West Michigan and throughout our system to develop the program."

Maybin, tabbed as Detroit's No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America, was the Tigers Minor League Player of the Year in 2006 along with the 2006 Midwest League Prospect of the Year. Badenhop was named the Tigers 2006 Minor League Pitcher of the Year while pitching for the Whitecaps.

In 2007, Hernandez followed in Maybin's footsteps as a top prospect in center field for West Michigan and was awarded the Midwest League's MVP award. Trahern, who went 12-6 with a 3.87 ERA at Double-A Erie this season, is fresh off helping Team USA win the international World Cup in Taiwan last month.

Former Whitecaps Manager Matt Walbeck is also on the move this offseason after accepting a position with the Texas Rangers as their third base coach after being named Baseball America's 2007 Minor League Manager of the Year. Walbeck managed the 'Caps for three seasons from 2004-06, leading West Michigan to two Midwest League Titles.

Individual and full-season ticket plans are now on sale for the 2008 Whitecaps season. For more information, contact the Whitecaps Ticket Office at 616-784-4131 or view ticket plans at West Michigan Whitecaps Baseball.

As a player, Ingle played in the Braves' farm system from 1979 to 1987 including an appointment as a player-coach at Greenville in 1987.

Bobby Moore begins his twelfth season of professional coaching and sixth with the Rome club. He has also served as hitting coach for the Macon Braves and has previously worked with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. Moore played with the Braves organization from 1992-1996, but a fractured hip in 1996 cut short his last season in Richmond. During his ten-year professional baseball career, from 1987-1996, Moore compiled a .279 average and had 175 stolen bases.

Pitching Coach Jim Czajkowski returns to Rome after serving as pitching coach for the Danville Braves. He was the Atlanta Braves' 29th-round selection in the 1986 June draft and he has played with the Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Chicago Cubs, Colorado, and Toronto organizations. He had his first Major League call up in 1994 with the Rockies and ended his playing career with 121 saves.

Trainer Chas Miller comes to Rome by way of the Danville Braves and will begin his third season in the Braves organization. Miller graduated from West Virginia University and received his master's degree in sports psychology from the University of Tennessee.

The team begins the 2008 campaign on April 3rd at home against Charleston. For more information log on to Official Home of the Rome Braves.

Saints Sign First Player of 2008, Ink Lefthanded Pitcher Villarreal

ST. PAUL, MN (December 4, 2007) - It's official. The St. Paul Saints have turned their attention to the 2008 season with their first signing. Manager George Tsamis signed left-handed pitcher Luis Villarreal, a familiar face from 2007.

The 27-year-old Villarreal pitched four games for the Saints in 2007. He was signed as a free agent in late May and went 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 25.0 innings pitched. He walked just six and struck out 28 while opponents hit .240 against him.

After an impressive performance with the Saints the Philadelphia Phillies purchased his contract and Villarreal spent the rest of the season pitching at Single-A Clearwater where he was 0-4 with a 5.21 ERA in 15 games. He began the season with the Milwaukee Brewers and pitched at Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville.

"It's great to have Luis back," said Saints manager George Tsamis. "He should be one of the top pitchers in the league. It's tough to find quality lefthanders and to me, we have one of the best."
