WhiteWings to recognize those who serve and protect

WhiteWings' General Manager Dave Kost announced today that the club has embarked on a new community project that includes the men and women who protect and serve the City of Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley. We live in a country where our freedom is provided by the Declaration of Independence and is secured by the members of the military that serve in the United States and around the World.

Likewise, we live in a community that is protected and served by men and women who ensure that our safety and emergency needs are met every day. We best know them in their roles as police officers, firemen, paramedics, highway patrol officers, and the list goes on. Regardless of their gender or particular function, they are the very lifeline in communities such as Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley.

"These brave men and women risk their lives on a daily basis to make sure that we are kept safe and receive emergency care", said WhiteWings' General Manager Dave Kost. "It takes a unique individual who is willing to put their own safety on the line to keep the community out of harm's way", said Kost "Myself and this organization feels strongly that we recognize these individuals by giving back to them", added Kost.

The new program is available to Police Departments, Fire Departments, EMS Services, Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Ports of Entry, Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI, U.S. Immigration and Customs, U.S. Marshal, U.S. Secret Service, and Sherriff Departments, within the City of Harlingen and the entire Rio Grande Valley.

When employees of these public agencies bring their issued identification to any 2008 WhiteWings' regular season home game, they will receive a Family Fun Pack that entitles them to four free General Admission tickets in honor of their dedication, compliments of the Harlingen WhiteWings. For additional information please contact April Carmona, Director of Community Relations Harlingen WhiteWings Baseball Club, at 956-412-9464.

The Harlingen WhiteWings Baseball Club is a member of United League Baseball, an Independent League of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is preparing for its third season in 2008 with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana.

North Shore starter Shinya Nakayama was nearly flawless tonight as the Orix Buffaloes prospect held Waikiki without a run and surrendered a lone hit to help the Honu shut out the BeachBoys, 8-0, at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. Despite the loss, Waikiki (16-18-1) remains a half game ahead of the Honolulu Sharks in the race for the HWB East Division title.

Nakayama (3.12 ERA) improved to 6-2 on the season, and struck out six BeachBoys in the process. North Shore relievers Kevin Roberts and Takashi Kamoshida each tossed two nearly-flawless innings to preserve the shutout, and Kamoshida (1.09 ERA) earned his fifth save of the season.

Brad Corley hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning, while teammate Stephen Chapman drove in a game-high three runs for North Shore. Honu (23-11-1) leadoff man Shintaro Yoshida chipped in two hits with a run scored, and Chris Valaika drove in two insurance runs in the ninth with a single to left field.

Hector Pellot accounted for two thirds of Waikiki's offensive production, as the New York Mets prospect notched two of Waikiki's three hits on the evening. Kyohei Muranaka (3-1, 2.00 ERA) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in three innings.

Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park for the finale of a three-game series tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Ice Park At Clipper Magazine Stadium To Open November 30

LANCASTER, Pa.-They won't be playing baseball this winter, but the Lancaster Barnstormers have unveiled a baseball-like promotional calendar for the return of the popular Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The outdoor ice skating rink, which attracted more than 15,000 skaters in its first season of operation, will re-open on Friday, Nov. 30 (weather permitting) with 90-minute sessions scheduled for 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

As part of the opening celebration, Clipper Magazine Stadium will host an "Ice Park FunFest" from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday evening, Nov. 30. Admission to FunFest is FREE and open to the public (ice skating passes sold separately) and features carnival games, special appearances by Santa Claus, Cylo and friends, live music and a spectacular opening weekend fireworks display at 8 p.m. Special foods available include a pig roast by Hess's Bar-b-Que, wine tasting from Moondancer Winery, chicken corn soup, chili and FREE hot chocolate and coffee, courtesy of the Lancaster Barnstormers.

"We had a very successful winter with the Ice Park last season, and we look forward to celebrating the start of an even better year," Barnstormers general manger Kevin Cummings said. "The Ice Park FunFest is going to be a great activity for the whole family. Even if you don't ice skate, I promise you'll have a great time at the ballpark on November 30."

The Ice Park will remain open each weekend and the full week between Christmas and New Year's Day until Sunday, Feb. 17.

The Ice Park will also participate in two charity drives this winter: a Toys For Tots drive from Dec. 7-9 and a Freeze Out Hunger food drive from Jan. 11-14. Skaters who donate toys or non-perishable food items will receive free skate rentals or discount passes to the Ice Park. Last winter, Ice Park skaters donated more than 1,000 pounds of food to the Central Penn Food Bank in the inaugural Freeze Out Hunger food drive.

The Ice Park will be open for four special one-hour sessions as part of Countdown Lancaster on Dec. 31. Skaters with a Countdown Lancaster button will skate for free at 5, 6:30, 8 or 9:30 p.m. The Ice Park promotional calendar also includes giveaways to paying skaters on select weekends: Barnstormers ice scrapers (Jan. 4-6), winter hats (Jan. 18-20) and hockey pucks (Jan. 25-27). Special theme nights round out the promotional calendar (see below for details).

Admission to skate at the Ice Park is $6 per session. Ice skates can be rented for an additional $3. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Clipper Magazine Stadium box office, by calling (717) 509-3633 or online at Lancaster Barnstormers - Lancaster, PA Baseball.
