Due to the success of the auction of game worn home jerseys, the Quakes are proud to announce that some of our most popular players' Batting Practice Jerseys will now be up for bidding. Some of the players include All-Stars Hainley Statia, Darren O'Day and Brad Coon as well as Angels Organizational Player of the Year Chris Pettit and former second-round draft selection in 2002 Kevin Jepsen. The bidding will start at $100 and each following bid will increase by $10. The final winner of these uniforms will be contacted by email and will have a $5.99 shipping and handling fee. These game worn, home jerseys are 100% authentic and come with a letter of authenticity signed by Quakes General Manager Gerard McKearney.
Chris Pettit was a stand out in his time with the Quakes. After posting huge numbers with the Cedar Rapids Kernals, the outfielder had a brief four game hitless streak once joining Rancho in June, but Pettit caught fire and hit .350 with 9 home runs and 42 RBI for the next six weeks. Pettit finished the season with a .309 average with 9 homers and 54 RBI in just 69 games. The San Dimas, CA native played in the prestigious Arizona Fall League this year and was the Angels Organizational Player of the Year.
Brad Coon made his presence felt with the Quakes in the first half of the season. The speedy base stealer swiped 31 bases and was caught just 9 times. In April, he hit .323 with 17 runs scored, 7 doubles and 14 steals. Coon hit his first career home run in Visalia on April 30 and followed that up with a lead off home run against Inland Empire May 6th. Coon was the starting right fielder for the California League All-Star Team.
Kevin Jepsen has been a mainstay in the Quakes bullpen for the last two and a half seasons. After saving 16 games in 2006, Jepsen was the "set-up" man in Rancho in '07. While his win-loss record does not show his effectiveness, the care-free 23-year-old led the team in appearances with 44 and struck out 50 batters in 53.2 innings.
Hainley Statia was the everyday shortstop in Rancho during the '07 season. He led the team in almost every offensive category including batting average, runs, hits, doubles, triples and RBI. The native of Curacao also shined with the leather earning him a spot on the California League All-Star team and was the Angels Organizational Defensive Player of the Year.
Submarine-style closer Darren O'Day was almost un- hittable for the Quakes in '07. He was 4-0 with an ERA of 0.75 (2 ER in 24 IP) while logging 26 strike outs and just 6 walks. O'Day also led the team with 11 saves before being promoted to AA Arkansas. He led the entire Angels organization with 21 total saves in 24 chances.
Remember to bid early and often as these jerseys will only be up for bid until Monday November 12.
Cedar Rapids baseball mourns the passing of Bud Curran
The Cedar Rapids Kernels family extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Guy 'Bud' Curran who passed away on the afternoon of Friday, November 9th after a long illness.

Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. (Hawaii time) for the finale of the three-game set.

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Tornadoes announced that they have signed free agent First Baseman Chris Colabello, reuniting him with the team with which he spent the first two-and-a-half years of his professional career.
"It's exciting to be back in Worcester," said Colabello. "It's a terrific city with terrific people and the organization is first class. This is where I started my career. It's a great place, we've done some great things here, and we plan to get back to the championship level of 2005."
Colabello, 24, is coming off another very strong season in 2007. He set new career-highs in Games (91), Runs (64), Doubles (29), Home Runs (13), RBIs (62), Walks (45) and Stolen Bases (6), in addition to eclipsing the .300 mark (.302) for the third consecutive season. Colabello also finished second in the Can-Am League in both Doubles (29) and Extra-Base hits (43). Over the past two years, no Can-Am League player has more Doubles (55) or Extra-Base Hits (78) than Colabello.
"We are extremely happy to have Chris back with us for 2008," said Tornadoes Manager Rich Gedman. "He brings a lot to this organization, both on and off the field, and there's no question that his addition makes us a better team going forward."
Colabello spent the second half of the '07 campaign as a member of the Nashua Pride after coming over from the Tornadoes in a trade a week into the second half of the season. He went on to help Nashua capture the 2007 Can-Am League Championship with an outstanding postseason, batting .294 with 3 Home Runs and 8 RBIs in 8 playoff games. The 8 RBIs were the most of any player in the '07 postseason.
Colabello is the Tornadoes all-time leader in Batting Average (minimum 500 at-bats) at .304, and has accrued 20 Home Runs, 50 Doubles and 117 RBIs in his illustrious career with Worcester. In 7 games against the Tornadoes in 2007, Colabello hit .423 (11-26) with 3 Home Runs and 4 RBIs. The three-year veteran is a career .307 hitter with 28 Home Runs, 62 Doubles and 151 RBIs.
