The Men and Women of the Armed Services around serve the United States without prejudice and their efforts have not gone unnoticed and the WhiteWings want to do their part ensuring these individuals are not forgotten. Harlingen WhiteWings' General Manager Dave Kost announced today, that as part of the organization's commitment to community involvement the WhiteWings will offer Active and Retired Service Personnel, in the Rio Grande Valley, free admission to WhiteWings' home games.
"The WhiteWings are committed to Harlingen and the communities surrounding us in the Rio Grande Valley", said Kost. "Extending this invitation to the men and women who have and are currently risking their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom, is extremely important to me and to this organization", added Kost. "If coming to a WhiteWings game gives these individuals a chance to get away from the daily grind of their jobs, then every one of them and their families will be welcomed at our ballpark".
Retired and Active Armed Service Personnel who bring their Military Identification to any 2008 WhiteWings' regular season home game, will receive four General Admission tickets, in honor of their commitment to America compliments of the Harlingen WhiteWings.
The Harlingen WhiteWings Baseball Club is a member of United League Baseball, an Independent League of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is preparing for its third season in 2008 with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana.
Alexandria, LA; October 23, 2007- The Alexandria Aces of United League Baseball (ULB) announced today that former Aces closer Justin Dowdy has been assigned by the Oakland Athletics to the Arizona Fall League (AFL), a league normally reserved for the top prospects in a major league organization.
Dowdy, who was signed by Oakland shortly after the Aces won their second straight United League championship, reported to the Athletics Fall Instructional League in mid-September. Following a dominant performance in the Instructional League, Dowdy was assigned to the Phoenix Desert Dogs of the AFL, one of only six minor leaguers in the Oakland system selected to participate in the prestigious league. With the Desert Dogs, Dowdy has appeared in 1 game, striking out 2 with a 0.00 ERA.
"I feel great," Dowdy said. "I feel like all the hard work is paying off. But I know I'm not there yet. I still have a lot of work to do."
The next step for Dowdy is an invitation to Major League Spring Training, although he expects to open the season in Class AA. "They told me it was possible if I pitch well here, I could be in Oakland by the end of the season," Dowdy said. "That would be awesome."
A left-handed pitcher from San Diego, CA, Dowdy set a ULB record for saves in a season in 2007 with 24. He ended the season with a 2-3 record and a 1.37 ERA. In 48 appearances, Dowdy threw 52.2 innings, striking out 102 while walking only 22. In a season plus with the Aces Dowdy compiled 31 saves and a 5-3 record in 72.2 innings.
United League Baseball is an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is preparing for its third season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana.
The Laredo Broncos announced the acquisition of three players. The players acquired Left Hand Pitcher, Brian Buchanan from the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association. Buchanan is a left handed veteran pitcher that has been in the New York Yankees organization reaching as high as Triple AAA.
In a separate transaction, the Broncos acquired RHP Brandon Pello from the Quebec Capitales of the Can Am League. Pello is a hard throwing reliever and resides in Austin, Texas.
The Broncos also announced the acquisition of one of 2006 Broncos favorites OF Anthony Bennett. Bennett played for the Broncos in 2006 and was instrumental in the Broncos going to the playoffs. Bennett played last season in the Can Am League for the Grays, a traveling team managed by Ex Bronco Manager Dan Schwan.
"I am very glad; we are able to acquire these three talented players for our 2008 season. Bennett helped us tremendously in 2006 and Pello and Buchanan are great pitching arms that can help." General Manager Jose Melendez mentioned.
The Broncos are still searching for a field manager after the dismissal of Angel "Papo" Davila. "We have some very good candidates available this year so whoever I get will be very accomplished." Melendez added
To make room on the roster, the Broncos traded OF Javier Lopez to the San Angelo Colts to complete an earlier trade with the two Clubs. The Broncos also released Utility Infielder JM Devarie and LHP Ramises Rosas. Broncos closer Brian Daly has fulfilled his two year contract with the Broncos and has filed for Free Agency. However, the Broncos will try to retain him. "Daly really solidified our closer situation at the end of last season. I would be very interested in trying to sign him again." Melendez noted.

CONYERS, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that the league will hold a league wide tryout camp at Macon's Luther Williams Field on Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 beginning at 10 a.m. Players can pre register for the tryout by visiting GSBSPORTS.COM and filling out the registration form. The cost to tryout is $60 through preregistration which can be reserved online via a credit card. Registration will also be available the day of the event for a charge of $80 and will be payable by cash, money order, or credit card.
"Last season, our tryout camps resulted in 26 player signings, of which 18 earned a roster spot on SCL clubs and two of the 18 were signed by affiliated organizations," said SCL Chief Executive Officer Jamie Toole, "With one season under our belt, we believe the talent throughout the league will improve for 2008 and finding these players starts with the November 3rd tryout in Macon."
League officials will be on hand to evaluate talent and offer SCL uniform contracts to qualified participants. Players are encouraged to wear tees or uniform tops with numbers on the back.

The Aiken Foxhounds of Professional Baseball are proud to announce the promotion of Jason Rabun to the position of Director of Ticket Sales & Merchandise. Rabun had previously held the title of Account Executive with the Foxhounds during the 2007 Inaugural Season.
"We are excited to have Jason return for another season with the Foxhounds. Both the South Coast League and the Foxhounds have a goal of promoting within the organization and this exemplifies the perfect example of that. Jason is a person with a lot of enthusiasm and a great work ethic, which will definitely be an asset to our organization," said Foxhounds General Manager Bradley Bell.
Rabun, 23, spent last season with the Foxhounds and proved to be a key component to the organization during its Inaugural Season. Rabun oversaw the Foxhounds merchandise as well as wearing many other hats throughout the season. As Director of Ticket Sales & Merchandise, Rabun's main responsibilities will focus on overseeing the ticket and merchandise sales efforts.
"I am excited to take this new position and look forward to making this a successful year for both the Foxhounds and the South Coast League," said Rabun.
Rabun is a December 2006 graduate from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in sports. He also minored in Sports Management. While attending the University of South Carolina he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and served as their Vice President. Rabun is currently residing in Aiken, South Carolina where he was also raised. He has a varsity letter in both baseball and football at South Aiken High School.
