Ankiel's big day: 2 homers, 5 RBIs

Pitcher-turned-center-fielder Rick Ankiel has to be looking more irresistible by the day to the struggling Cardinals.

Ankiel blasted two homers and drove in five runs Monday to power the Class AAA Memphis Redbirds to an 11-6 victory Monday at Round Rock (Texas).

Ankiel hit a run-scoring double in the first inning and a solo homer in the third before connecting for a three-run homer in the fifth.

The fifth-inning shot off Jared Gothreaux traveled an estimated 430 feet.

Round Rock finally gave up and intentionally walked Ankiel in the sixth, but outfielder Nick Stavinoha followed with a grand slam.

Despite a recent stint on the disabled list, Ankiel ranks in the Pacific Coast League's top five in homers (11) and RBIs (39).

Ankiel, Redbirds pound Isotopes

Rick Ankiel hit his 15th homer and drove in three runs to power Memphis past host Albuquerque, 15-5, on Sunday. Ankiel went 4-for-5 with an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run shot in the eighth.

Edgar Gonzalez smashed a three-run drive in the third and Ryan Christianson hit a two-run homer in the seventh. Brendan Ryan and Skip Schumaker chipped in three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Redbirds (29-36).

No clue but 19 homers? I would think.. 52 rbis.. jeeeeeeeeez.. I'm so happy for him.. appears he's homer or nothin though but we could use that!

Yep just checked..Val Pascucci & Mitch Jones have 19 too.. unless they've hit one tonight!
