Sharks defeat Honu in pitchers' duel, 1-0

Kanehisa Arime and three relievers teamed on a two-hitter as the Honolulu Sharks defeated the North Shore Honu, 1-0, last night in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Les Murakami Stadium.

The game between the Waikiki BeachBoys and West Oahu CaneFires at Hans L'Orange Park was postponed because of rain. It will be made up on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

Arime (2-0) worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing one hit while striking out five and walking one. Shota Kimura and Scott Roehl each followed with 1 2/3 innings and David Haehnel got the final out for a save.

Default Sharks shut out Honu with 4 pitchers

Kanehisa Arime allowed only one hit in 5 1/3 innings to help the Honolulu Sharks blank the North Shore Honu 1-0 in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Les Murakami Stadium last night.

Arime struck out five and walked one to remain undefeated and earn his second win of the season for the Sharks.

Honolulu scored the only run it would need in the first inning when Eric Campbell singled in Atsushi Agumori.

The league's other game, between the Waikiki BeachBoys and West Oahu CaneFires, was rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Nov. 12.

Default BeachBoys shut out CaneFires 6-0

Eric Young Jr. went 3 for 5, including a double, and scored twice as the Waikiki BeachBoys beat the West Oahu CaneFires, 6-0, last night in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park.

Nate Schierholtz had two RBIs, hitting a two-run single in the BeachBoys' four-run third inning.

Default CaneFires rally for 5-4 victory over Honu

Will Venable had three hits, including a tie-breaking RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth, as the West Oahu CaneFires beat the North Shore Honu, 5-4, last night in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park.

West Oahu pitchers teamed to strike out 16. Reliever Joba Chamberlain worked four innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six and walking none to earn the win. Neil Jamison pitched the ninth, recording three strikeouts, to earn the save. Starter Christian Garcia allowed three hits and three runs while striking out seven.

Mike Carp had three hits, including a two-run double in the first when the Honu took a 3-0 lead.

Default Warriors split on road in Canada

The Hawaii men's volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Thunderball Tournament hosted by the University of British Columbia.

The Warriors swept New Brunswick, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, but fell to UBC, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22. Hawaii concludes pool play today against a third Canadian team, Malaspina.

No statistics were kept. Unofficially, Steve Grgas had 14 kills in the loss to UBC, according to UH volleyball coach Mike Wilton.

» Tuli Peters had 16 kills and Faylynn Merrick added 13 as Brigham Young-Hawaii beat UH-Hilo last night in a PacWest volleyball match at Laie.

Default Minicozzi helps BeachBoys over Sharks

Mark Minicozzi drove in a pair of runs on a home run in the eighth inning and the Waikiki BeachBoys downed the Honolulu Sharks 4-1 last night in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.

David Quinowski earned the win for the BeachBoys with a scoreless eighth inning.
