Livan Hernandez's career as a Twin officially ended on Wednesday when he was claimed off waivers by the Rockies.
The teams tried to work out a deal for Hernandez but couldn't agree on a player. So the Twins allowed the Rockies to take Hernandez off their hands and assume the remainder of his contract, roughly $1.65 million.
The Twins, however, are on the hook for a percentage of the incentive bonuses Hernandez will earn after he reaches 160 innings pitched. Hernandez was 10-8 for the Twins with a 5.48 ERA in 139 2/3 innings.
Hernandez will receive $133,333 for every five innings he pitches once he reaches 160 innings. If he pitches 200 innings, he will earn just under $1.2 million in incentives. The Twins would owe the percentage of that based on the innings he pitched for them. In this case 70 percent, or about $840,000.
