Just being a Major League Baseball player is enough to draw awe and admiration from children, but Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer seems to earn a little more than most with a few other tricks up his sleeve.
With a penchant for performing magic from his card tricks to being able to levitate, Cuddyer is often the center of attention in the Twins clubhouse. And it's with that type of fun demeanor as well as always having a smile on his face that has made Cuddyer a favorite with children everywhere.
It's that type of rapport with children that has helped Cuddyer to make an impact in the community to an even greater extent, which earned him the honor of being this year's Twins nominee for the annual Roberto Clemente Award.
The award, named in honor of the legendary Pirates star who lost his life in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1972, while trying to deliver relief supplies to Nicaragua after that country was devastated by an earthquake, acknowledges the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team.
