MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers hired Ken Macha as manager on Thursday in a move that fulfilled general manager Doug Melvin's desire to choose a proven winner.
The 58-year-old Macha received a two-year contract and gets another chance to lead a small-market team, this time taking control of the NL's wild-card representative as the permanent replacement for Ned Yost.
Macha previously managed the Oakland A's from 2003-06, going 368-260 and winning the AL West twice. In 2006 the A's reached the AL Championship Series but were swept by Detroit.
Me? Well, I don't really know. He has a good track record, so one would expect him to do well, especially with the talented team he's got with young stars like Braun and Fielder.
