Default Prince Fielder: The Vegetarian

Quote:
Diet fit for a Prince

Phoenix - As Prince Fielder matures, he's not afraid to try new things. At the plate and on his plate.

Fielder is known as a large, imposing figure on the field. He was a home run machine last season, a most valuable player candidate and one of the game's brightest young stars. He has personality and a first name that takes someone special to bear.

What else can one share about the 23-year-old first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers that hasn't been said or written?

Try this: Prince Fielder is a vegetarian.
Full story.

Tony Gonzalez was unable to remain a vegan/vegetarian, opting to add chicken and fish into his diet a few weeks after making a decision similar to Fielder's - think the Big Prince can stay the course? Or, more importantly, can he stay the course without sacrificing power and production?

A couple of UFC fighters are vegetarians and they say it really has no impact on their abilities (meat/no-meat). There was a experiment I saw on maybe science channel or something like it, which took athletes to a veg diet to test strength & endurance. There seems to be no difference. Power & endurance levels stayed consistent. So hopefully it is the right choice for Fielder.

Switching to vegetarianism is a drastic change - particularly when you time the switch over concurrent with the beginning of Spring Training. I don't doubt that a vegetarian can be equally as strong as anybody else with a meat-filled diet... I just question Fielder's timing; he really didn't give himself much of an adjustment period.

I have nothing against it. If that's what floats your boat than go with it. Personally, I like me some meat. I couldn't imagine my life without it... especially since it's part of my profession.
