The Milwaukee Brewers are five games below .500, tied for fifth place in the National League wild-card race and without as much as a four-game winning streak since the beginning of July.

In the increasingly putrid NL, that kind of status does foster hopes of a run at the post-season. And that’s why the Brewers are not ready to pull the plug and start planning for the future.
"Mathematically, whatever you want to say about how we're playing, we're in the NL wild-card race," said Brewers owner Mark Attanasio.
"You can say that's not reality or there's still five teams to jump over or you can say whatever you want to say. But the fact is it's the middle of August and we're there. I think we have a responsibility to play to win. Given the challenges of the competitive landscape, the race is still winnable."
