Over the past several years the Dodgers have been plagued by an unwillingness to make a concerted effort to integrate youth into the line-up. Hopefully this will be the year.
What follows is what I hope to be the Opening Day line-up for the Dodgers:
- Furcal, SS
- Martin, C
- Loney, 1B
- Jones, CF
- Kent, 2B
- Kemp, RF
- Ethier, LF
- LaRoche, 3B
- Penny, P
Will this happen? Probably not - odds are Garciaparra and Pierre will open the season as starters, barring a miraculous realization or trade. Pierre and Garciaparra just make too much money and the Dodgers are far too reliant on their veterans - and I doubt Torre, who is usually slow to acknowledge younger talent, will change the current norm.
