Default Rumor: Dodgers Interested In Blanton

Quote:
The Reds and Dodgers are talking with the A's about making a trade for right-handed starting pitcher Joe Blanton, according to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Blanton, who is scheduled to make $3.7 million in the final year of his contract in 2008, was 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA in 34 starts for the A's last season.

The Dodgers do not need to make any move for any sort of pitching. Their starting rotation is very, very deep already:
  1. Penny
  2. Lowe
  3. Billingsley
  4. Kuroda
  5. Schmidt
Schmidt may be injury-prone... but Loaiza could fill in capably in the fifth spot. Moreover, Miller and Kershaw will likely end up getting some action this season - there's no reason to block them for a likely fifth starter in their already strong rotation.

The fact that Billy Beane is asking for Ethier, LaRoche, and a mid-tier prospect makes not making this deal a no-brainer.
