Default Dodgers' Garciaparra should be on third watch

The Dodgers look set, at every position but one.

Have kids lined up here, veterans there, free agents plugging holes.

Except at third base.

Third base remains almost oddly undefined. Third base their one great unknown.

It shouldn't be that way. It should be the uncontested domain of Nomar Garciaparra. The hometown boy who returned to make good.

Only Garciaparra is coming off what is generally considered the worst season of his career. After a stirring first season as a Dodger in 2006, his power numbers wilted badly last year.

All season, fans waited for Garciaparra to finally get untracked. All season, his production remained flat. The first two months of the season, he had one home run. By season's end, just seven.

Everything went way downhill for him when he got thrown out of that game. Personally, i lost faith in him at that moment. i liked the guy they brought up to replace him, but i can't remember his name right now.

Isn't this a DODGERS forum? Can't remember the name of the guy trying to replace Nomar? Geeeeeez.

Andy LaRoche should play ahead of Nomar, if for no other reason than to gain experience. He has a future. Nomar does not. The end.

Garciaparra should be jettisoned - he is old and injury-prone, producing nothing more than an empty batting average and a headache for the Dodgers' faithful.

Andy LaRoche is a tremendous athlete (he's already a better fielder than Garciaparra), has solid speed, solid power, and ridiculous patience for such a young hitter - he walked 20 times compared to only 24 strikeouts in his extended cup of coffee. Garciaparra's only advantage over LaRoche for this upcoming season is name recognition... of which I could not care less about.
