It seemed fitting that Derek Lowe was the Dodgers' starting pitcher Friday, the day former Dodgers great Don Newcombe was honored.
Newcombe pitched in a different era, one in which pitching in both games of a doubleheader was admirable, not ludicrous.
On Tuesday, Lowe pitched three innings of scoreless relief in a 16-inning Dodgers victory. Then he made his regularly scheduled start against Colorado, and had to pitch out of several jams, but was solid enough over five innings to help the Dodgers defeat the Rockies 6-3 in front of 49,601 at Dodger Stadium.
