Matt Brown showed he could hit for power and average at Double-A Arkansas this season. The third baseman batted .293 with 19 home runs and 79 RBIs in 134 games for the Travelers.
Brown has had five multihit efforts in 12 games in the Arizona Fall League. He went 3-for-4 against Grand Canyon on Nov. 1 to raise his average to .356. Brown has one homer and five RBIs with 11 runs scored against the Rafters.
Brown and six other Angels prospects are playing for the Scorpions. Here's how they fared from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1 in the AFL:
OF Bradley Coon -- Coon was added to the roster to take the place of Terry Evans on Oct. 26. He went 2-for-3 on Oct. 28 against the Saguaros, but those were his only hits in four games. Coon does have five walks and at least one stolen a base in each game he has played.
RHP Rich Thompson - Thompson pitched a perfect inning against Grand Canyon on Oct. 26, but was reached for two runs on three hits in an inning against the Javelinas, raising his ERA to 15.12 ERA.
RHP Matt Wilhite - Wilhite issued two walks and yielded a hit to hand the Saguaros a run on Oct. 28. He retired all four Javelinas he faced in his next outing on Oct. 31, lowering his ERA to 5.87.
C Bobby Wilson - Wilson went 1-for-6 in two appearances this week and walked three times. An 0-for-3 effort against the Javelinas on Oct. 31 dropped his bating average to .289, the first time it's been below .300 this season.
LHP Daniel Davidson - Davidson's struggles continued in his third start. Against Grand Canyon on Oct. 26, he gave up five runs on seven hits in three innings. Davidson struck out six and walked one.
RHP William Edwards - Edwards retired the side in order against the Javelinas on Oct. 30, lowering his ERA to 3.68. Opponents are hitting .154 against him.
Dominican Winter League
1B Mike Eylward -- Eylward was among the best hitters in the Pacific Coast League, batting .314 in 109 games for Salt Lake. Eylward also finished with eight home runs and 63 RBIs. He has appeared in one game for Azucareros, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Venezuela Winter League
SS Maicer Izturis -- Izturis has struggled recently, dropping his average below .200 after a 1-for-6 effort on Oct. 31. Izturis also had two RBIs in that game, doubling his total in six previous contests. He also got his first extra-base hit with a double.
RHP Amalio Diaz -- Diaz was outstanding in his two starts for Caribes last week. He got his second win of the season after giving up a run on seven hits in six innings on Oct. 27. He followed that by permitting a run on four hits in five innings on Nov. 1. Diaz is 2-0 with a 3.63 ERA.
LHP Gustavo Espinoza -- Espinoza has not given up an earned run in any of his five appearances for Navegantes. He retired the only batter he faced on Oct. 29 and gave up one hit while retiring two batters on Nov. 1. Espinoza has seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
RHP Kasey Olenberger -- Olenberger gave up one run in his first 3 2/3 innings before surrendering three runs on four hits in three frames on Oct. 29, raising his ERA to 4.91.
RHP Alex Serrano -- Serrano pitched two perfect innings in two appearances on Oct. 27 and 29, respectively, before giving up his first run of the season on Oct. 31. That most recent outing gave Serrano a 3.00 ERA.
Mexican Pacific League
1B Baltazar Lopez -- Lopez batted .300 for Class A Rancho Cucamonga this season with three homers and 25 RBIs in 200 at-bats. Lopez has yet to get an at-bat in the MPL.
3B Freddy Sandoval -- Sandoval batted .258 and stole 30 bases in 113 games for Rancho Cucamonga this season. Sandoval has struggled to match that production for Mazatlan. A three-game hitting streak this week brought his average up to .226.
RNP Felipe Arredondo -- Arredondo was one of the Northwest League's better relievers. He had a 5-2 record with 11 saves for the Orem Owlz. The right-hander has made two appearances for Culiacan, giving up a run and two hits in the second outing.
RHP Rafael Cruz Chavez -- Cruz Chavez had a 1.69 ERA at Class A Cedar Rapids before a promotion to Rancho Cucamonga, but he had a 7.25 ERA in 24 appearances with the Quakes. With Obregon, Cruz Chavez has not allowed a run in his last five outings. He is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA.
RHP Miguel Gonzalez -- Gonzalez picked up a win in his first outing of the season and has pitched sparingly since. He allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning on Oct. 29, lowering his ERA to 1.59 in four outings.
