Matt Wilhite could be one of those players who makes the jump from the Arizona Fall League to the Major Leagues in 2007. It wouldn't be a stretch, given that Wilhite had a successful season for Triple-A Salt Lake.
But the leap would be enormous, given that the Angels signed Wilhite out of the Frontier League. The right-hander gave up his first run in three outings on a solo home run on Oct. 17 against Grand Canyon, but wound up picking up the win in the game.
Wilhite and six other Angels prospects are playing for the Scorpions. Here's how they've fared during the week of Oct. 12-18 in the Arizona Fall League:
RHP Rich Thompson -- Thompson had a second rough outing when he was knocked around for four runs -- three earned -- on four hits in a 15-7 loss to the Javelinas on Oct. 14. All four runs scored on a grand slam by Michael Wilson in a six-run third inning that gave Peoria a 6-4 lead. Thompson pitched a scoreless inning against Mesa on Oct. 18. His record was 0-1 with a 24.30 ERA after that game.
C Bobby Wilson -- Wilson has hit in all five games he has played. He went 2-for-4 with a double against Grand Canyon on Oct .16 and did the same against Mesa on Oct. 18 to raise his batting average to .421. Wilson went 5-for-12 with a home run and three RBIs in three games.
3B Matt Brown -- Brown went 3-for-9 in consecutive games on Oct. 16-17. That came after a 0-for-4 in his only game as the club's designated hitter on Oct. 12. Brown has made a name for himself in the Angels system with his power, but he's still looking for his first home run and RBI.
CF Terry Evans -- Evans is another player who has hit in every game he's played. He made it five straight games by going 1-for-2 with a run scored on Oct. 16 against Grand Canyon. He had at least one RBI in his first four games and had a .333 batting average with one home run and seven RBIs after that game against the Rafters.
LHP Daniel Davidson -- Davidson made his only appearance on Oct. 14, starting and surrendering two runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. Those two runs started a six-run third. The left-hander struck out two and walked one.
RHP William Edwards -- Edwards has shown himself to be a reliable right-hander out of the bullpen. He struck out two and retired the side in order on Oct. 12 against the Desert Dogs. Edwards gave up an unearned run against Mesa on Oct. 18 but came out of that game with a 2.08 ERA in 4 1/3 innings.
