Default Notes: McPherson's future unsecured

ANAHEIM -- The Angels will be on the search for a power hitter this offseason, but whether Dallas McPherson gets the chance to prove he's the run producer the organization has envisioned remains to be seen.

One hurdle that McPherson must clear is his health, and he'll be rehabbing this offseason in Arizona to try to clear out the inflammation in his lower back caused by a herniated disk.

But he also must prove that he's not brittle. The 26-year-old has missed most of the past two seasons to injury. Last year he suffered from a left-hip problem and ultimately had surgery to shave a bone spur. McPherson realizes the burden is on him to prove his value as an every-day Major Leaguer.

"I know what people are going to think, but I can't control that. I feel that I'm never going to be hurt again. I'm going to get it under control. This has been nothing like last year," McPherson said. "At the same time, this year has been satisfying. I've played a whole lot more and I've been able to finish the year."

In 111 at-bats with the Angels this season, McPherson has hit .261 with six homers and 12 RBIs, while in 208 at-bats at Triple-A Salt Lake, McPherson hit .250 with 17 homers and 45 RBIs.

That McPherson has power is no secret and is a key reason why the Angels did not re-sign Troy Glaus following the 2004 season. McPherson hit 43 homers that year in two Minor League stops and a brief stint with the Angels, and the club projected him as its third baseman of the future.

But he no longer has solid footing on the depth chart in an organization that must improve its offense and settle the third-base position.

"I'm confident in what I can do and that I'll be ready for Spring Training," McPherson said. "I know there is talk about free agents and there is talk about trades. The only thing I can do is get healthy and get on the field. I can do that here or I can do that at Salt Lake."

GO ANGELS

Well he's kind of had it in me ever since i accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly" and replace "dog" with "son".
