ARLINGTON -- Robb Quinlan's opportunities have not been plentiful this month, but he found his name on the lineup card when he reported for work on Sunday morning.
The reserve corner infielder has been part of the Angels' standard rotation against left-handers, but with an extra-inning game on Saturday night and the club still trying to find an offensive spark as they remain in the hunt in the American League West, Quinlan got the call.
"I like to play as much as I can, but all I can do is be ready," Quinlan said. "I watch video and swing in the cages to stay sharp."
It was Quinlan's 43rd start at first base, which trails only Kendry Morales for the most starts at the position for the Angels this season.
Orlando Cabrera and Juan Rivera were given the day off on Sunday, as was Howie Kendrick. The rookie infielder has been struggling, and manager Mike Scioscia said Kendrick could use some time to watch from the bench, though the Angels skipper wouldn't elaborate on how long Kendrick might sit.
