ANAHEIM -- The Angels starters have been there for the club all season, and with September winding down and its offense hitting a lull, the team needs them now more than ever.
Thus far, those starters have proven more than capable.
Over the last two turns through the rotation, Angels pitchers hold a glossy 2.26 ERA, including eight quality starts. In all, the club had given up three runs or fewer in 11 of the last 14 games entering Wednesday.
And when a team can't seem to score many runs or field cleanly, numbers like that go a long way.
"We're a team that has really struggled in a number of areas," manager Mike Scioscia said. "One is on the defensive side; early on, it was the offensive side, but the one constant we've had is terrific starting pitchers."
