Saying farewell to Darin Erstad is going to have to take place in the later innings, because the defensive specialist does not think he will be able to start a game this season.
Erstad is a free agent who isn't expected to be re-signed after the season, so the innings are likely winding down on his Angels' career. He has dealt with limited playing time because of ankle inflammation that put him on the disabled list twice this season.
Since returning to the roster Sept. 1, Erstad has been used exclusively as a defensive replacement at first base, typically entering games in the eighth or ninth inning.
