ANAHEIM - It was only fitting that after he dominated the New York Yankees in his last start, Jered Weaver joined one of them in the history books on Friday night.

Weaver won his ninth game of the season, scattering three hits and striking out seven in seven innings as Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-0 in front of 44,072 at Angel Stadium.

Weaver's 9-0 record to start his career ties the American League rookie record held by Yankees' Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, who accomplished the feat in 1950.

"It's great to be mentioned in the same sentence with Whitey Ford," said Weaver, a Simi Valley native. "We all know the history on him and what a great career he had. I don't think there's a pitcher who doesn't know who he is.

"But even though it was great to accomplish this, I've still got to get back to work and try and win No.10."

weaver is a great young pitcher...he is 9-0 with a 1.95 and a whip of 0.93...this a great numbers and he has a great shot at rookie of teh year if he can keep this up.
