Default need help for bat purchase for son

Hello, My son is just starting the youth baseball league. He has never played t-ball even. He is a young 8 years old and has yet to find a good comfortable bat. Any tips? I've asked his coach and he says whatever he's comfortable with and nothing more. He's been using a copperhead with a drop of 13, is this a good range for him? He really needs a good practice bat for home, he's getting discouraged with his batting and wants to get better. I just want to find the best bat for him.
Thanks

What size is the bat, is it too big for him? My son is a larger almost 8 y/o and the two bats he uses are a 27in 18 oz big barrel, and a 28/19 bb. He takes some balls at practice using a 20oz. Even some of his larger friends don't use much bigger than that. Your coach is right in saying that he needs to be comfortable, but don't make the bat too small, he won't have any power.

Go to a good sporting goods store (NOT a Sports Authority type, go to a smaller one) and have the people working there help him. He should be able to swing the bat and not feel like it's pulling him. He should also be able to swing, and stop it midway and hold it. Make sure the bat doesn't pull him. Swing every size they have until you find one that really feels good.

Default Thanks for the help!

He has found a 28inch 18 ounce without a drop that he says he likes, but I am going to take him this weekend after reading your reply and let him use them all. My hubby says he know the perfect place, nice little store.
I did finally get a response other than what he's comfortable with from his coach, he says if I dont' mind spending the extra $$ to go with a bigger drop, maybe -13. I had no idea what the drop was till he explained it.
He has gotten better with his swing, we practice every night, even on idle nights. We are lucky enough he has a large yard with nothing to break-so hopefully we'll find him the perfect match!
THANK YOU so much!
