The Royals and veteran pitcher Brett Tomko agreed to terms Sunday on a one-year contract worth $3 million plus incentives.
The deal will likely be made official today, assuming Tomko passes a routine physical. Once finalized, signing Tomko would address the team’s primary remaining need of a seasoned arm to add to the Royals’ group of rotation candidates.
Tomko was 4-12 with a 5.55 ERA in 40 appearances — 19 of them starts — for the Dodgers and Padres last season. He was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last August, then was signed by the Padres and went 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA in a pennant race.
