The clock is already ticking on right-hander Luke Hochevar after he reached agreement with the Royals on a four-year deal that places him immediately on the club’s 40-man organizational roster.

“We just felt this is a player who is going to be pitching in the big leagues quickly,” scouting director Deric Ladnier said. “We felt it was in our best interests to put him on the major-league roster.

“He’s an advanced college pitcher who we feel can move through the ranks quickly.”
