Berkman wants immediate blood testing
The Official Site of The Houston Astros: News: Houston Astros News

"In my opinion, I think that really, the Mitchell Report in general is silly," Berkman said. "Instead of trying to figure out what happened in the past, if they really wanted to address the substance abuse problem in baseball, they should spend that money to implement blood testing. That's the only way you're going to catch guys using HGH.
"Who cares what a guy did seven or eight years ago? Let's work on getting that out of the game now. The only way to do that is to blood test. I'm a huge advocate of that. I think they should do that. I'd be willing to submit to that at any time, and I think that other players should, too."
Berkman, speaking from an Astros caravan stop Tuesday night, said he would be agreeable to giving a blood sample now, even if a reliable test wasn't available for several years.
"Absolutely, there's no question," he said. "I think anybody that wouldn't submit to that has something to hide."

You know, I really like the outspoken Berkman. He seems to have stepped up and been outspoken now that Biggio retired.
I wonder how much Biggio and Bagwell were keeping him quiet.

I don't like the outspoken Berkman. These comments are ok, and I highly agree with them, however, 9 times out of 10, he puts his very large foot in his mouth when he speaks out.

I agree with you both. I like what he says but not how he says it. Someone needs to teach the Big Puma some tact!

He's just very honest when he speaks. He did hit the nail on the head about the blood testing imho.

I do agree with the sentiment of stop looking backward - doesn't do anyone any good. So, why don't they start the blood testing ting???

There is currently no reliable test for HGH. However, as one of the witch hunt committee members said, they should take random samples now, and test them retroactively once a reliable test is found. Eventually, they will figure out how to test for it.

I agree, and disagree. I don't mind a man speaking his mind. I do however feel one should think before one speaks. I do agree that past is past, and it does no good to dwell in it. Bloodtesting, however, would be fought feverishly by the players union, and I would guess that most players would agree with that fight. We need to be careful, and not kill baseball with a work stopage over this.
I mean I don't mind peeing in a bottle, but I don't want my employer taking samples of my blood, and I have nothing to hide.
Berkman needs to be carful not to alienate his teamates with his mouth.

And we're not professional baseball players - which makes it apples and oranges.
And your last line is the reason Berkman needs to keep his mouth shut. If you can't think before you speak, you shouldn't speak.
