Just dont offer Clement a minor league contract.. I think he's gonna go to Pittsburgh or Cleveland if we dont spend about two mil, 1 year on him (which is decent to me).. pretty sad actually..

We have plenty of money to spend on a pitcher and I dont see why we wouldnt offer him a good enough deal to land him (Bartolo Colon too for that matter).. he's an instant upgrade to our horrible rotation.. I dont see him coming but feel we have a 20% chance of it..

Yeah, I don't quite understand why the Cards wouldn't spend a little cash on him. Reasonable salary, with incentive would probably get him.

Jon Lieber
Livan Hernandez
Bartolo Colon
Matt Clement
Freddy Garcia
Kris Benson
Jason Jennings
Kyle Lohse
Hernandez had a horrible season with the D-backs, at times he looked awful. No. For the money Lohse wants, no. Jennings, no, simply for the fact that he might be attacked by Astros fans if he tanks again. Benson missed 07 with surgery, but the scouts who saw his session a few weeks back were impressed, maybe. If Colon can give us a 4 ERA, and we don't have to give him a multi-year contract, yes. I'd have to see Garcia & Clements medical report before making a full decision, maybe.

Just read a little rumor that the Stros are looking at Freddie Garcia. I don't think he will be ready until mid season though.

Hernandez is still an "innings-eater," if not much else, at this point in his career as he has pitched over 200 innings in each of his last eight seasons. It sounds as if he is interested in getting the shot to play alongside his brother - Orlando - in New York though.

It would be interesting to see Freddy Garcia reunited with the 'Stros as he came up with the organization before being dealt to the Mariners as part of the Randy Johnson trade. Garcia seems like a player worth taking a flyer on as he is young enough, with a listed age of 31, to get his career back on track.

However, I have a feeling the Astros will wind up signing Lieber due to his relationship with Ed Wade in Philadelphia.
