Default Is beating a record an automatic HoF?

Is beating a record an automatic way to get into the Hall of Fame? I'm not talking about little one's like most walks in a career or something like that.. and definvitly not bad ones. I mean stuff like Most Stolen bases, most home runs, most his, etc.

Yea I agree. But let's say, for example, somebody beats Cal Ripkens record of most games played in a row but is just an average, or even below average player. Hits .260 a career and isn't the best fielder.

Haha suppose you're right

But let's use this:
You are an amazing base stealer and have beaten Rickey Henderson, yet you are only averaging around 100 hits per season giving you a low total of a .220 average. You retire as the best base stealer.. but only bat .215 as a career average with 10 something home runs and only 200 something RBI's.

Is that a hall of fame ballot?

Default Yes AND No...

Wow, tough call on this one, but I would say with my heart he would be worthy, yet I don't believe he would be voted in. Too many intangibles go into the the voting decisions, and don't know many writers that would vote in on the base stealing aspect alone...the thought is that with that many stolen bases, he would be in scoring position more, would score more runs, thus allowing his team to win more games. But if he's hitting that low, he would have to walk a lot in order to get on enough to best someone like Rickey. TOUGH call...my final answer would be no, but a little gray area involved....GREAT post....

Roger Maris and Maury Wills would say "Yes", but I think it should be on the overall body of work, not just a record broken.

That's kind of what I'm leaning towards.. but if a guy sets a milestone that will be known for many many years to come, it's hard to say if he would or wouldn't be in the hall.
