With or without steroids, Mark McGwire does not deserve to be in. He was a terrible fielder, a poor contact hitter, and had trouble staying on the field for an entire season. I, for one, do not believe that one-dimensional players do not belong in the Hall of Fame.

He and Sammy did alot to bring baseball back to the forefront. However, I don't think he will get in because of the steroids. When the Clemens hearing was going on, the sports writers who vote on HOF, were saying that they could not vote for Mac because of the steroids allegations & whatnot. Don't think Sammy will be there either.

Its funny/sad that only the best players who did steroids are being punished. All of the mediocre guys who did it to stay in the majors get a free pass. Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, etc get drilled for it. IT WAS THE STEROID ERA--FOR 15-20 YEARS, HUNDREDS OF PLAYERS DID IT. So we're punishing them for being the best players to do it, and not realizing they were good enough already.
The other players that have been caught have been punished. Instead of not being remembered, or being remembered as a 'scrapper' or for some sort of signature moment, they will be remembered infamously, due to poor decision-making.
The best players of the generation, of which I do not consider Sosa or McGwire to be a part, have not really been punished. Not garnering entry into the Hall of Fame is largely the same as the infamy of those lesser players.
Moreover, they broke the rules. I don't really care how many players utilized performance enhancing drugs, as there's no excuse for it. Something that is against the rules remains against the rules, regardless of how many players choose to break said rules. If it came to light that x-amount of players were gambling on the game, then x-amount of players should be barred from it.
Why bring the gambling in with a Cinci guy around!?!?! lol
