The magic number is between 70-75, give or take, which may be too much to ask. In the end, after all, that means a lot of people must change their minds in order for Jim Rice to get into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Before proceeding, we know what you’re thinking: Oh no. Not another story about Jim Rice and Cooperstown. Getting Rice into the Hall of Fame has become a crusade in this region, and this is that time of year when the Rice supporters (like this one) line up and state their case, as well they should.
Im a NY fan and he always scared the heck out of me I dont think i ever saw hit any balls harder except Dick Allen on a line drive 3 ft off the ground to hit off the outfield wall
Rice deserves to be in the Hall
Eight time all-star, top ten in hits eight times, two silver sluggers, AL MVP, top ten in average six times, top ten in RBI nine times, and top ten in home runs seven times.
He should be there, no question. I wonder if his consistent lack of production in the playoffs hurt him...
In looking at the players that will be eligible come November's voting I cannot imagine Rice not garnering induction.
Steve Avery, Jay Bell, Jason Bere, Mike Bordick, John Burkett, David Cone, Omar Daal, Ron Gant, Joe Girardi, Mark Grace, Mark Guthrie, Joey Hamilton, Bill Haselman, Rickey Henderson, Darren Holmes, Trenidad Hubbard, Todd Hundley, Brian L. Hunter, Félix José, Chad Kreuter, Graeme Lloyd, Keith Lockhart, Albie Lopez, Pat Mahomes, Al Martin, Orlando Merced, Charles Nagy, Denny Neagle, Troy O'Leary, Jesse Orosco, Lance Painter, Dean Palmer, Craig Paquette, Dan Plesac, Tom Prince, Jeff Reboulet, Rick Reed, Rich Rodriguez, Terry Shumpert, Luis Sojo, Greg Vaughn, Mo Vaughn, Dave Veres, Matt Walbeck, Matt Williams, Mike Williams and Kevin Young.
Henderson is the only player that will likely make the cut, though I could imagine a scenario where it is close because of his poor reputation. Rice is the best player that will be up for the vote that isn't Rickey Henderson... hopefully the Hall of Fame recognizes this and inducts the man.
