He cannot command all 35 of the pitches he throws. Here is what I don't get: Good pitchers, like Verlander and Weaver for example throw three or four pitches tops.
Like Weaver throws a curve, change, fastball. He has great command with all three pitches, but I think he has his best command with his fastball. He could throw it for a strike at anytime.
Verlander throws a curve, slider, fastball, and change up. His best pitch is his fastball -- and like Weaver -- he can throw it for a strike at will.
My point being: How is Darvish supposed to be effective when he has so many pitches and cannot throw any of them consistently for strikes? He needs to just focus on three or four and really harness his command.
