Default Marlins miss chances in home opener

Quote:
MIAMI -- Some misplays and missed chances spoiled the Marlins' home opener in front of the largest crowd at Dolphin Stadium in two years.

A gathering of 40,397 witnessed a breakout game for the Phillies, who rolled to an 8-2 win over the Marlins, powered by Pat Burrell's three-run homer and four-RBI night.

Marlins starter Sergio Mitre was victimized by some defensive lapses, which resulted in one of the five runs he allowed in five innings being earned.

Jimmy Rollins added a two-run homer for the Phillies, winners for the first time this season after being swept by the Braves. Jamie Moyer worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs, while collecting the win.

"We make a play here and there, and it's a different ballgame," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We get a hit here and there, and it's a different ballgame."

The 40,397 is the largest crowd to see a Marlins home game since 57,405 were on hand for Opening Day, April 5, 2005, against the Braves.

Friday's loss dropped Florida to 0-5 in home openers when the team opens the season on the road.
