Wood trying to make it with Fish
Quote:
JUPITER, Fla. -- All Jason Wood is looking for is a break.
He's been waiting a long time, and this spring, Marlins' front-office officials certainly are taking notice.
Wood is a unique prospect, because he's been toiling away in the Minor Leagues for the most part since he was drafted in the 11th round by the Oakland A's in 1991.
At 37, Wood is a non-roster invitee who is the oldest player in Marlins camp. Veteran reliever Felix Rodriguez is next at 35.
A versatile utility player, Wood has already played all four infield positions this spring. He's turning heads and is a sleeper candidate to make the club.
Heading into Monday, Wood has been one of the most productive Marlins this spring. He's 9-for-19 (.474) with team highs in home runs (two) and RBIs (six).
"I know I can still play and still produce. That's why I keep doing it," Wood said.

I doubt he will be the one that they are looking for to be the "veteran" leader on the team.
