All Time greatest
Hey guys.
I'm new to these boards and am looking for some input as to who the best of the best at each position is...
I'm talking since the beginning, and mostly looking at total careers, however if a player had a particularly great season or 2 or 3 (like Maris 61 in 61 or Gagne in 03 or Earl Webb hitting 67 doubles in 1931) we certainly can name those guys too.
The purpose for this exercise is I am playing a simulated baseball game and am trying to put together a league of 24 fairly evenly matched teams featuring the greatest of all time.
The positions that are obviously a little tougher to fill are 2B,SS,3B and C.
Pitching is tough too as if each team has a 5 man rotation that would require 120 pitchers...
Anyway hoping to get some input and spark some interest.
Thanks

Hey guys!
Thanks for the input!
BenFink: are you familiar with OOTP or WIS?
OOTP is a PC baseball simulator. Pros = 1 time purchase (unless you want to update it every year to include the latest season. Cons = It is quite involved and has some gameplay issues, and quirks that I'm not real fond of. But it's not bad...
WIS is a web-based Sports simulation site. Pros = Although there are some gameplay issues. on a game to game basis, it's about the most realistic baseball simulator I've ever played. Cons = $12.95 for a full season team. The "sim season" lasts approximately 2 months. So to me it's not a bad deal (13 bucks for 2 months of entertainment)
I have been wrestling back and forth with the best way to run it...
I completed one season with a league where I "drafted" all 24 rosters myself, and got other owners to buy the teams and play them. It was pretty great. The teams were balanced very well with the exception of one team who was 10-12 games better than the 2nd best record, and about 3 teams who finished under 65 wins.
18 of the 24 teams were within 3 games of the post season.

It is pretty good, but sometimes a little too easy for me
But I'd recommend it

No, you manage a team, but you can start it in any year from 1901-present, shuffle teams, or do a fantasy draft
