Nate Scherioltz, former Giants right fielder, also joined the team mid-season, but only played seven games at center-field. It's clear that Mayberry was the Phillies only choice. That was, until the Braves made the decision that opened doors everywhere as they picked up B.J. Upton for a 5-year deal worth 75 million. It added the power the Braves are always striving for, but sent former center fielder Michael Bourn elsewhere. Bourn is the perfect fit for Philadelphia. His speed cannot be ignored, and since Victorino's gone, that's exactly what the Phillies need.
For some bizarre reason, the Sox of Boston swapped star Adrian Gonzalez for struggling James Lonely. It hasn't been said what the Redsox where looking for out of Lonely, but whatever it was, it couldn't have been expected. Lonely batted only .230 with his new team, only achieving 23 hits and just eight RBI's. The Redsox finished the season with over 90 loses, giving them their worst season since the '90s. Getting one player that could produce is not going to change anything dramatically, but it will help.
