Default Is Mike Trout the next Jackie Robinson?

Amazing. This is a understatement for the young phenom, Mike Trout. A 20 year old putting up numbers better than Hall-of-Famers in their rookie seasons. His bat is undeniable great, and his work in the outfield cannot be ignored, with leaping catches left and right. Someone he shares familiar qualities with is the all-time great, Jackie Robinson. Is he the new Jackie?

"Baseball is like a poker game. Nobody wants to quit when he's losing; no one wants to quit when you're ahead."
- Jackie Robinson (I never had it made)

Those same words are probably running through the head of 20 year old, Mike Trout, who recently hit his 30th home run of the season, becoming the first rookie ever to hit 30 home runs and steal 40 bags in a season. He also leads the league in runs scored, and a great number of 80 RBI's.

With these numbers, it's easy to say that Mike Trout could possibly become a better player then Mr. Robinson, but Jackie did have a great rookie season, too.

.297 BA, 48 RBI's, 29 SB, 12 HR's. (Jackie Robinson Rookie Season Totals)

It's also easy to say that Trouts having a season so much better then Robinson did as a rookie, that they shouldn't be compared. But we have to keep in mind that it was a different game when Jackie played. With the racial discrimination...

Yea, he would be a good one to compare to.. but I chose Robinson because of his combination of speed, power, and ability to be stealthy up at bat. Mantle had power, but he did not have speed.

You're ****ting me right? Mickey Mantle was one of the fastest, if not THE fastest players in the league when he first came up. He blew out his knee in the 1951 World Series and then was plagued with leg injuries after that. Mantle would of stole 500 bases if he had both legs through his whole career.

He was clocked from home to first in 3.1 seconds when he first came up
