Tigers Detroit Tigers Trade Jacob Turner,Bryan Flynn, and Rob Brantly to the Miami Marlins

Quote:
The Detroit Tigers have made their first trade of the year, trading away former first round pick Jacob Turner; and Rob Brantly to the Miami Marlins for Anibal Sanchez, and former Tiger Omar Infante.

The Tigers made a much needed move improving second base. The Tigers were ranked dead last in the MLB for second base production. Infante played for the Tigers 2002-2007 before going to the Atlanta Braves in 2008.

Anibal Sanchez this year is 5-4 with a 3.94 ERA. He brings a consistent arm to a rotation that has been shaky this past year. Sanchez has posted an ERA under four every year since 2009, and provides a solid strikeout to walk ratio. 8.2 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9.

Infante is under contract until 2013 but Sanchez could be just a rental for the stretch months.

The Marlins get young catching help in Brantly to replace John Buck, who has been terrible this year. The Marlins are also hopeful Turner can be a mainstay in the their rotation for years to come.

The trade is pretty smart for both sides. The Tigers get a second basemen they were in dire need of, on top Infante playing in Detroit once before. Along with a solid starting pitcher. And the Marlins get a young arm and catcher they can perhaps build around in the future.

There is a bleak chance the Tigers go after anyone else before the deadline. With the recent resurgence of Brennan Boesch and Delmon Young seeking outfield help looks like itís no longer needed.
