On Dec. 4, the Tigers and Florida Marlins agreed to the trade that spun Brandon Inge's career into uncertainty. Inge was home that evening in Greenville, S.C., just more than 300 miles away from the Nashville, Tenn., hotel where baseball officials had convened for the winter meetings.
Inge saw the reports that Detroit had acquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. Initially, at least, he was excited. Inge thought Cabrera would play leftfield for the Tigers. It wasn't until he spoke with Vance Wilson, his close friend and Detroit's backup catcher, that Inge realized what had happened.
