LAKELAND, Fla. -- Success on the field has translated into success at the box office for the defending American League Champion Detroit Tigers this spring. The club announced on Friday that sales for its 18-game Grapefruit League schedule have now surpassed the dollar total for sales of all 19 exhibitions in 2006. On a year-to-date basis, sales are running 72-percent ahead of the same date last year.
Games against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, March 10, and New York Yankees on Sunday, March 25, both at 1:05 p.m., have only scattered tickets available for sale. Standing room only tickets for those two contests will not go on sale until the day of each game at the Joker Marchant Stadium Box Office.
Detroit plays host to Florida Southern College at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27 to begin exhibition play. The club's first Grapefruit League game in Lakeland will be on Thursday, March 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05, while Central Division rival Cleveland visits for the first weekend game on Saturday, March 3 at 1:05.
