Press Release: Tigers acquire Yorman Bazardo from Seattle
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Yorman Bazardo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Jeff Frazier.
Bazardo spent the 2006 season with Double-A San Antonio, posting a 6-5 record and 3.64 ERA (138.1IP/56ER) in 25 starts. He finished fourth in the Texas League with a 3.64 ERA.
"Bazardo is young pitcher with a quality arm," Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said. "He pitched well this winter in Venezuela and we're excited to add him to the Tigers organization."
He appeared in 21 games with Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League following the season, posting a 2-0 record, 1.78 ERA (30.1IP/6ER) and one save. Additionally, Bazardo saw action in two games with Venezuela during the Caribbean World Series, fanning six batters in five scoreless innings of relief.
Frazier batted .228 (120x526) with 61 runs scored, 21 doubles, 13 home runs and 73 RBI in 135 games with Single-A Lakeland during the 2006 season.
In a related move, the Tigers have designated the contract of right-handed pitcher Preston Larrison for assignment. Larrison split the 2006 season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo.
