Default Errors, light hitting are hurting Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have been the best story in baseball this season — a winning season after 12 years of losing, the return of Jim Leyland to the big-league managerial ranks, the upset of the mighty millionaires, aka the New York Yankees.

But if this Chicken Soup For The Motor City Soul is going to have a happy ending, the Tigers are going to have shore up their defense and find a way to generate more offense after losing Game 3 of the World Series 5-0 on Tuesday night.

"We're struggling right now," said Pudge Rodriguez, who spells "struggling" with 0 for the World Series and 0 for his last 23 postseason at-bats. "I know I'm struggling. What can I say? I have to come out (tonight) and try to wait for a good pitch to hit. I have to try to not put pressure on myself and just go out and try to have fun."

Default Tigers are looking tame once again

The Tigers of August and September are back, which can mean only one thing: the Cardinals have taken charge of October.

The Cardinals used a simple but almost forgotten formula to take a 2-1 lead in the 2006 World Series on Tuesday night.

They played perfect National League baseball in a perfect National League ballpark.

Default ST. LOUIS 5, DETROIT 0: Buschwhacked

Even when Bob Gibson fanned 17 and shut them out in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series, the Tigers still got five hits.

Even when Dizzy Dean pitched on one day of rest and shut them out in Game 7 of the 1934 World Series, the Tigers still got six hits.

But when the Tigers faced the inheritor of the Gibson-Dean throne Tuesday night at new Busch Stadium, they got three hits.
